MAUKU SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The quarterly meeting; of the Mauku School Committee was held on the 30th November, when the following members were present:— Messrs E. Gillon (chairman), Nicholls, Franklin, J. Gillon and Bell.
as no tenders had been received for cleaning the school the subcommittee reported having arianged with two of the elder Bcbolara to do the work for £l4 per year The Inspector's report was received and was considered very satisfactory. It stated that in both departments the pupils are receiving intelligent instruction and are well advanced; the primer classei are bright and responsive; there is a fine work spirit and good tone in the school; the pupils being wellbehaved and good-mannered. The interior of the school is particularly clean and neat, while the playground and school gardens are a credit to those responsible--com-mittee, teachers and pupils. The chairman read a letter from the pupils suggesting that no collecting should be done for school prizes acd picnic. It was resolved to hold a picnic at one of the beaches on the 18th December, parents to provide the luncheon.
Messrs Gillon rfnd Franklin offered to take waggons to convey all who have no conveyance of their own, to start from Bell's corner at 9 o'clock.
