MERCER NOTES.
The local agents for the "Pukekohe and Waiuku Times" are Messrs Carter and Sons, wht will be pleased to execute orders for delivery of the paper. Mr Bollsid, Heform candidate for Raglan, electorate spoke here on Monday evening last, when he received an excellent reception, and at the close of his address was accorded a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence.
Several ladies and gentlemen from Tuakau, and the Rev. Blaraircs from Auckland, journeyed to Mercer on Tuesday evening l*st and gave songs, dialogues and speeches on behalf of the Nc-I.iccnso patty. Ihc large audience present apparently enjoyed the programme and speech. Mr Vincent, of Ngaruuwahia, occupied the chair. A tine new launch for passengers and toning work has arrived hire fur Mr C. C. Davis, owner of the paddle steamer "Freetrader." During the progress of the school concert on Friday last, Mrs Watts was presented with u handsome salad bowl and Mr J. Wright with a gentleman's toilet companion, thfse being the prizes for respectively the ladies' and gentlemen's highest scores for the euchre tournament in connection with the school. Mr C. W. Landon met with a painful accident un Sunday last at Maungatawhiri, whilo endeavouring to head a bull off. It rushed below his horse's neck and threw the horse sideways, throwing Mr Landoti cut of the saddle and at the same time breaking two of hi* ribs. Mr Watkinson's little daughter, Rene, has been very ill with appendicitis, but she is now progressing satisfactorily.
