PATUMAHOE.
On Monday evening Mr Henry, the newly-elected member of the County Council for the Mauku riding, entertained at a smoke concert and supper the members of the committee who had worked to secure his election. A number of toasts were honoured, and with songs, recitations and speeches the evening passed pleasantly away 'till near midnight. In replying to the toast of his health, Mr Henry said it was gratifying to him to find his supporters rallying round him and returning him by so large a majority. The proposer of the toast had expressed a fear that his return had been so easily accomplished that it might make him careless about bis duties, but so far wai that from being the case that he would work doubly hard in order to Bhow his gratitude for the confidence reposed in him. There was a great deal to be done during the next three years, and he was glad he was in a positioc to help with it. He hoped and believed that by the time his term of office expired the ratepayers would find a great improvement in the roads of the district. Ihe concert and dain,e arranged to be held in the Patumahoe Hall on Friday evening next, in aid of the Belgian Relief Fucd, promises to be a brilliant success. The licketa arc selling well and the promoters have every reason to be confident that a large gathering will assemble to support such a deserving cause.
