BUCKLAND.

On Friday evening Mr Bollard addressed the slectora of Auckland in the hall, which was well filled. The candidate spoke in eulogistic terms of the work done by the Reform Party during its term of office, and answered all questions put to him. 'lhe meeting was very orderly, there being only one interjection. The chairman, Mr James Wylie, had a very easy time. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr H. W. Driver moved a hearty vote of thanks to the speaker coupled with one of continued confidence in the Reform Government. The motion was seconded (there being no amendment) and carried amidst much enthusiasm, with only one dissentient.

Mr John Furniss, Democratic candidate for Raglan, addressed the electors nt Buckland on Monday of last week. There waß a fair attendance of electors, but they treated Mr Furniss' candidature as a joke. The tennis match played between Buckland and Bcmbay clubs ended in a draw, each side winning nine sets. Bombay had the advantage in games, winning 12 more than Buckland. The match, which was played on the Bombay courts, was of a very friendly nature. There was an amusing and unexpected conclusion to a meeting of electors convened at Buckland on Monday in support of Mr Thompson, the Liberal candidate for Raglan At the close of Mr Thompson's speech a resolution was promptly moved and seconded thanking Mr Thompson for his address but expressing confidence in Mr Massey and the Reform Government. This was rather a staggerer to Mr Thompson and although the chairman asked for an amendment none was forthcoming. The motion was then put and carried by 23 votes to two and thus the electors ol Buckland indicated to Mr Thompson that he was not likely to have much support in that district.
