THE FRANKLIN SEAT.
Mr Glass at Waiuku.
There was a good attendance of electors at Waiuku hall on Monday night to hear an address by Mr A. G. C. Glass, the Liberal-Labour candidate' for Franklin. Mr J. D. Chalmers occupied the chair. Mr Glass spoke on the lines of his speeches at Pukekohe and other places, and although bis views and those of a number of people in the audience were evidently at variance he got through his address without any serious interruptions, although a good number ot interjections were fired off at intervals. At the close of the candidate's address the chaitman invittd questions.
After replying to a questioner about the ostrich farm to the effeot that he had dealt with the matter in his address, Mr Glass came forward and said that as there were no more questions he moved a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman, and asked the audience to carry the same by acclamation, which was done.
The chairman having expressed appreciation of the fair hearing given the candidate, Mr H. Furniss rnovad a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Glass and confidence in Sir Joseph Ward. This was duly seconded.
Mr A. M. Barriball pointed out that a vote of thanks to the chairman usually closed a meeting. Tho candidate explained that he had not expected a vote of thanks at Waiuku, so he had moved a vote to the chairman.
An amendment by Messrs L. F. Shakspear and John Bent, of thanks only to Mr Glass for his address, easily beat tho proposal on the voices, and on being put as tho substantive motion was carried with about half-a-dozen dissentients.
