PATUMAHOE.

THE BELGIAN FUND

A representative meeting of residents of the Mhuku district was held in the Patumahoe Hall on Friday evening last to consider ways and means of promoting a district fund in aid of the Belgians. Mr J. Henry, the convenor of the meeting, presided and after explainmg the objects of the meeting in a short and stirring addtess urged the people to come forward liberally and assist to the fall extent of their means in relieving the distress of the Beluian people, who had rendered such service to the civil ised world by their heroic resistance to ths tide of Prussian barbarism.

The meeting expressed both sympathy and enthusiasm, and committees were set up to work the whole district in various ways, and it is confidently expected that considerable help will be forthcoming, both in money and kind, as a result of the committees' labours. Amongst amounts subscribed at the meeting was the sum of £5 by the chairman, and it was announced that two other lesidents had agreed to give half-a-dozen sheep each, and it is expected that by others following this lead a truck load will readily be available. It was decided to make a house canvasa of the district, to organise entertainments and to take such other steps as in the opinion of the committee would be advisable. ,
