A very large and enthusiastic gathering of electors was addressed in the Pokeno hall by Mr W. D Thomson (the Liberal candidate for Baglan) on Wednesday lust. Mr Lippiatt was elected to the chair. With the exception of a few interjections the speikor received an attentive hearing. At the close of his address the candidate was asked a good number of questions. A hearty vote of thanks and confidence in tLe candidate, coupled with an oxpression of confidence in Sir Joseph Ward, was carried. Messrs Dean and Co.'s flixmill was totally destroyed by fire last Friday, caused, it is supposed, by sparks from a railway engine. The lire with the strong wind blowing crossed the creek, and as the mill had been closed down since September there were no men about to pre vent the spread of the flames. A youth saw the tire start, but did not anticipate any danger until tha mill was alight. There was no insurance on the machinery or buildings.
