PAPAKURA.

"BELGIAN WEEK." The Belgian week in Papakura has been a great success, and everyone has been most generous to the cause. The euchre party last Wednesday was well attended, realising £3 9s 6d. The prizes were won by Miss Richardson and Miss Gladys Cave. The lecture given by Dr H. D. Bamford, of Auckland, in the Public hall, was well attended. The sale of tickets and collection at door realised £lO lis 6d; and a handsome gold and emerald ring, to be auctioned, was also given in. On Friday evening a dance was arranged by several of the young people and was held in the Parish hall. This realised £5 12s 6d. So far £94 2s lOd has beei collected in Papakura, which include £3 7s given by the committee of the social for the members of the Expeditionary Force, this being the balance after expenses ;were paid. Besides this amount, the offertory from the Methodist church last Sunday was £7 5s and from the Presbyterian church over £2O. These amounts were sent to Auckland, and money given from other people in Papakura has also gone to Auckland, so tbat altogether £3OO will have been collected in Papakura. About five cases of clothing have been sent and more is still coming in. To make the amount collected last week up to £IOO, it has been decided to take the money wanted trom the Patriotic League Fund.

The money, and the ring to be auctioned, will be sent at once to Mr Burns in Auckland.

TOWN BOARD ELECTION,

Polling for a vacancy on the Papakuva Town Board took place on Wednesday, the electors having the choice of three candidates for the one seat. The rosult was declared by Mr H. W. Oeissler (Returning Officer; as follows:—R. W. Mears, 52 votes (elected); W. B. Liustrom, o« ; M. Dempsey, 29.
