.*. , Increase of 10s per Ton. Auckland Bakers' Position. The price of Hour in Auckland was raised un Tuesday to £l2 15s per too net cash, an advance of 10s per ton on the price fixed on Septamber 12th. The usual advances are made for the smaller sizes, the prices being as follows: 10011) bags, £l3 2s Gd per ton; 501b, £l3 7s 6d; 25 lb, £l3 12s (3d; 12Mb, £l3 iTs 6d; 6|lb, £l4 2s (id. The retail price is from 30s to 35s in advance of the wholesale price. Southern Hour is quoted at £l3 per ton plus fmght and other charges, which amount to 15s per ton. Explaining the increase in the price, Mr Peter Virtue, manager for the Northern Milling Company, stated that aj a result of the proclamation issued on Tuesday, wheat cannot be purchased at less than 5a 3d per bushel, and the pries for flour has consequently been increased. He expressed the rpinion that had the Government relied upon the rfgulation by supply and demand the price of wheat would not have exceeded ss, as competition among millers is sulliciently keen to have controlled values to withi i that limit. The previous rise ii Hour six weeks apo was only 5s Od per ton, and no advance was thca made in the price ot bread. Owing to the further increase, the position will be considered by the baker?, and the executive of the Master Bakers' Association in Auckland will meet in a day or two to lix the price of bread.
