OLD RESIDENT'S DEATH.

Coroner's Enquiry.

An enquiry into the circumstances touching the death of Louie Braun, aged 78, an old resident of the district, was held by the District j Coroner, Mr W. J. Kirg, on Monday. George William Braun, eon of the deceased, gave evidence showing that his late father went to reside with him about six months ago. The deceased had then fair boiily health, but was mentally weak. During this perkd d.ceased's health began to fail, particularly in the last three months, although his appetite was good. Dr Howden was called in and his late father ssemed better for the treatment for a tim<?, but Ihin gradually failed, although able to get abjut until a week ago. The deceased then look to hi 3 bed, and died last Sunday evening. His late father had sutfered_pain to fa great extent; But witness did rot call in the doctor recently, as on the last visit the doctor said he could do nothing more. During the last week deceased had not taken much nourishment and did not sem to recrgnise anyone. On occasions his late father wa3 troublesome i i delirium and had bruised an eye and one of his hands in recent movements. Witness saic his late tather's age was 78, and had been in New Zealand 49 year l ?. Dr C. E. Howden deposed that he attended the deceased about nine months ago at the request of the previous witness. He found the deceased thin suffering trom slight cerebral hemorrhage. He saw the deceased again about six months ago and found that hi had failed considerably in general health; and was suffering with dropsy due to a failing heart. Witness had viewed the body and found it very emaciated. There was a bruise over the left eyelid and ore on the left hand. Io his opinion death was due to heart failure following probable cerebral hemorrhage. The coroner jeturncd a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence.
