LOCAL AND GENERAL.d

Papakura Town Board and Drury Road Buard reports will appear on Friday. Tho annual soiree and children's enteitainment in connection with St. Andrew's Ladies' Guild will bo held in the Masonic hall on Thursday, 29th inst,

Mr T. Maxwell, probationer at the Pukekohe school, has been transfeired to Taumaranui, at which school he will take up the duties of pupil teacher. Some remarkably line specimens of early potatoes, grown by Mr P. Millar, of Pukekohe, were on view at Mr W. Roulston's last week. An old resident of the district oa seeing tho potatoes expressed the opinion that it was as line a sample of early potatoes as ho had ever seeu.

Messrs Woods and Pilkingtou, with Mr 11. 0. R. Mason, waited on the County Council on Thursday in an endeavour to secure a refund of the West road district rates for that district's road works. Nothing immediately was gained, but tho way was cleared for future negotiations. Our full report will appear next issue.

Mr J. T. Benseman, of Pukekohe, has at present over two acres in cauliflowers. A quarter of an acre is already being cut and tho vegetables are being supplied to Mr T. A'-kew. A number stripped of supeilluous leaves were weighed and averaged lilbs, and a personal test shows the splendid eatingduality of this grand crop. Regt.-Sergt Major Hatt and Sergt. Hovey visited Pukekohe on Saturday. They were both looking well and in the enjoyment of good health. On Saturday afternoon Sergt. Hovey visited the golf links and the bowling green where he was greeted affectionately by his old club mates. Both officers have returned to camp.

A big attendance should be present at the children's musical com petitions in the Premier Hall tonight. The performance is an unusual one, and as there are quite a number of clever children in the district a few eurprises await the audience. The competitions stirt at 8 p.m. sharp, and if concluded in time the star picture, "A Fatal Legacy," will be shown.*
