BUCKLAND.

FARMERS' UNION

A meeting of the Farmers' Union was held on Saturday evening. There was only a small attendance of members.

The business of the meeting consisted principally of discussing the request made to the bacon factories re putting in a weighing scales at Buckland station in order to enable farmers to dispose of their pigs hy live weight. The several companies sent replies, and in each case wanted to know fcow much support they would be likely to get. It was decided to call a meeting later and ask all those interested to be present. The Union decided to donate two guineas to the Huntly relief fund.

Mr A. A. Civil was elected a member of the Union. The Auckland Executive sent a petition to be signed by members and farmers generally, requesting the several auctioneering firms to erect weighing scales at the Wesllicln fat stock market, so that farmers could ascertain the weight of their tat stick if they so desired. Most of those present signed tne petition. Mr Neal gave an interesting essay. The subject chosen was farming versus land fpeculation, which caused a lot of discussion. Mr Noal was accorded a vote of thanks. EUCHRE SOCIAL. The final of the euchre socials in connection with the local Tennis Club was held on Friday evening, ani was well patronised. The prizewinners for the evening were Miss Wilcox and Mr Trevor Home. The prizes for the winners of most games during the aeries were won by Mr H. Wilcox and Mrs E. Bilkey. The men's prize, a gold sovereign ease, was donated by Mr E. Appleby, and »he ladiea prize, a handsome oil painting, was given by Miss Lippiatf, of I'okcno, Mr A. I'. Home, president of the Tennis Club, presented tfcc prizes to the several winners, and in a very 1 appropriate speech congratulated the I club on the successful manner in | which they had conducted the socials which had proved a huge success, Loth from a social and tinancnl point lof view.
