PrKKK"' in 1: has achieved its object and the £ 1000 cash, which this borough set out to raise, has been subscribed -That is a matter lor congratulation. Of thi- sum £xoo has now been sent to Wellington for Empire defence. £IOO has been reserved for local equipment purposes and £IOO has been allocated to the Pukekohe committee of the Lady Liverpool Fund. Having secured the £IOOO, the Patriotic Committee are now convening a meeting of subscribers to ask for authoiity to devote all monies raised over and above the four figures to war and distress purposes, according to the committee's discretion. At yesterday's meeting such important requests as those for aid for the Belgian sufferers, and for the Sister Esther fund, came forward but the committee felt unable to act without the sanction of those who subscribed. The mooting is to be held on Thursday afternoon at the Borough < 'ouncil chambers at 3 o'clock. It is hoped that there will be a good attendance.
