BOROUGH BOUNDARIES.

Reducing The Area. I i Which is Best Boundary ? At Wednesday night's meeting of the Pukekohe Borough Council a report was received from the Boundary Committee, which had gone into the question of cutting oil' the outlying portions of the borough and no reducing its size. Particulars of the proposed now area have already appeared in the " Times." The Mayor remarked that some people whom it was proposed to cut oil said they would liko to stop in. It was said that after consideration it had been decided to tako the roads as the boundary lines, and not a point two and a-lialf chains back from the road. Cr Pollock said he objected to this so far as the west end was concerned. The road from tin' butter factory to Stuart's carried a lot of traffic and if that road was to be a dividing line it would be 110 man's road and thoro would be continual squabbling. They should either liavo the road wholly in the borough or in the county. The Mayor said the Act laid it down clearly that all roads on the boundary weio under the control of the borough. The borough coilld make the road and charge its share to the county. Cr Pollock said most of the tratlie over the road ho referred to would be from county ratepayers and the borough would have no sympathy with them. Cr Hubbard replied that it was to the borough's interest to facilitate people coming into the township. Cr Pollock moved, That the matter be referred back to the committoe. Cr Beatty seconded. Cr Comrie said it seemed to him that this Council had the power to control the road and had everything to gain and nothiug to lose by taking the roads as the boundary. He was strongly in favour of the roads as boundaries. Cr Bilkey : So am I. The proposal to refer the question back to the boundary committee was lost and the committee's recommendations, fixing the new boundaries, were carried.
