That Mauku Mistake.

To TTIK EDITOR

b' ir,— My name !i <j a appeared pretty often in your columns in connection with the emission of Mr Wright's name from tiia list of contributors to the Mauku Patriotic Fund, and I must a.-k for a little space to put the matter right. It hag l:e?n twice stated liy your local correspondent that I supplied him with an incorrect list. As ain itter ef fact I did nt tupply him with any list, and he wag perfectly aware of that befure ha wrote either of his reports. The last report goes 3n to say that Mr Cri-pa "strongly relented the imputation circulated ty Mr Wily that he (Mr Crisps-) was responsible fir the mistake.'

What really cccur.ed was that Mr Crispe accused me if having blamed him fur the omission to one persjn, but was met not only by my denial hut by the evidence of Mr J. Henry, who was an aud'tir of what I said to the pe'son in question. Why then this disingenuous statement? -I am, etc.,

HENRY E. R. L. WILY Mauku, September oth, 11)14.

Mr Crispo says that Mr Wily wrote him as follows:—"Sorry could not get list before leaving home; w ill post direct to 'Times' to morrow morning.—Wily." To this Mr Crispo replied asking that the list should be sent to him as he wished to prepare it for the paper. Next day th• ■ list arrived. Now, if Mr Wily did not supply it, who did ' Mr Wily may have the ijuibble ready that the list was not in his own hind-writing;, but was it not written under his directions '! However, Mr Crispo says ho is not anxious to fasten the blame upon anybody for a mistako which might easily occur ; what he does object to is that Mr Wily should persist in his misrepresentations. We may add that we have no hesitation at all in accepting Mr Crispo's version as to what occurred as being the truth.—Ed.
