Mauku Patriotic Fund.
TRUSTEES MEETING
A mooting of the ttusteos of tho above fund was hold on Tuesday evening anl tho following additional amounts were reported as having been collected since, or omitted from the published report : Mr A. K. Wright, £•"> : Mr T. E. Taylor, £2 2s : Messrs W. T. Wriglr, S. Miller, J. Brady. C. (.'rispo and J. Cfttter £1 each.
The Wniau list is now available and is as follows:—Messrs Robert dirk, sour, and Joseph Clark, £lO eaili: Taylor Bros., £5 09 Gd ; Isaac C'aik and (Jeorgo Learning, £"2 10s each ; McLaiin Bro<., £"2 ; Don t.Ttrk, 10s C.J ; Armstrong Bros., Mrs Torbet, K, Clark, j nr., E. P. Milieu, 10s each: Roper Bros, 7s (id ; 8. J. Muuford, C. J. Clark, J. J. liobiusou, A. J. Grinter, K. Clark, 8. A. Owen, A. Webb, li. Mapp. li. Habnrgam, -is ouch : A. J Chalton, J. Fiulay, J. R. Milicli, 2s tid each. The Waiau collector v Mr Davy) also reports that Mr J. W. McLarin is sending .'JO sacks of cha!l to be sold for tho Patriotic Fund, another proof of the geuerosity of Waiau.
The trustees resolved that tho following troopers who had gone from Mauku should be equipped from the funds collected :—Lieut. Haeata, J. Eisenhut. Stanley W. Nicholas, Gerald Ellis, C. J. McCusker and Fred Cowie. It was estimated that this would cost about £l7O. Tho balance of the money i> to be sent to Hamilton for tho Upper and Lower Waikato fund. The tru«tees sent a congratulatory message to the Primo Minister oil ace uint of tho part the Government had taken in the movement which had resulted in the capture of Samoa.
Mr W. Fin lay lias leceivcd a reply from the Prime Minister thanking the committee lor tlio congratuand stating that no doubt Samoa would ho a great acquisition to the Imperial Government and to Ni'\v Zealand.
]{egardiu«; Mr Wright's letter which appearel in the "Times" of August 2Nth, Mr Crispe stated that the names complained of were not 011 the list supplied him by Mr Wily. He also strongly resented tho imputation circulated by Mr Wilv that he v Mrf 'rispe) was responsible for the mistake.
Mr Wily denied having made any such charge and explained that he had given the list to another to copy and these names had inadvertently been omitted. The Mauku t •ta 1 now stands at about i'"J !tt and tlu-re are a lew donation-- to yet come in as well as sonic that are to be monthly instalments.
