A well-attended and successful dan-o social, coudii'ted by the Hall C.inniiit'i'O, t >ok pi tee last Fiidav night, l'rior t > the dancing the National Anthem and J\ule Britannia were sung by those in attendance. Tl'.e dance progiainme was continued until about a.m., ami was much enjoyed. Music was supplied by Mr W. Deed and Miss Williams. Mr W. Louden was M.C., and during the dance intervals ho provided graui'iphoiie music. All present had a good time.
The foundation .-tone of the new Anglican Church at Waipipi will be laid 011 Thursday, September 10th, by Lady Makgiil. The stono will be a gift from the church people of Waiuku to the Waipipi congregation.
The funeral of the late Mr A* Glass, of Auckland, formerly uf Maioi'o, took place at \\ aiuku cemetery on Monday alternoon. The remains were brought by motor hearse to Waiuku, and at the Bau k corner a good number of vehicles and riders on horses joined in procession and paid their tributes of respect. The deceased, who left Maioro about three years ago, was one of tho earlitfSt settlers in that locality and was widely known and esteemed, lie was about "is years of ago.
A bottle was picked up by M r Seoul It r the other day along the beach near Waiuku, which judging by the message enclosed on a slip of paper, has had a considerable amount of travel. The writing, portion of which had faded, showed that the bottle had evidently been cast adrift by way of an experiment. It read : l-)an[Ue Briarhill, of Liverpool, G, Windmill. 1(3-11-1'-, Luudsvall to Melbourne ; Lat. 11..'id L ng. .15: 10.'! days out ; all well.
The funeral of the late Mr Lionel MclNop, which took place at Waiuku cemetery, w»- very hugely attended. A> showing the esteem in which the decea-ed held people were present from l'ukekohe and all Mirroundiiig di-tricts of Waiuku. There were over forty vehicles and between >i.\ty and seventy persons on horses following the cortege and paying their tribute of re-pect to the deceased. Theie was a large number of floral emblems from sympathisers and idatives. The Kev. A. Vaughun conducted the burial service. Much -yiupathy i> felt throughout the district for Mellsop and relatives in their -il beieavement.
