WAIUKU WOMEN WORKING. A meeting of ladies of Waiuku was held in the Parish hall on Wednesday, 10th, to consider what means to adopt in the way of helping those in distress in Auckland city. Miss liarstow presided and about 10 ladies were present. A sum of £i> 10s was raised in the loom and promises of help were given. It was decided to form a patriotic working club. It was also decided that all present form a working committee, and each one take material and make garments to he sent to the poor of Auckland. Miss liarstow was elected president and Mrs Bishoff secretary. All donations of cash, new garments or materials will be thankfully received ; and parcels may be left with Mr A. i:. King.

A good dial of interest continues to be shown in the welfare of those leaving for active service. The collectors on behalf of the Patriotic Fund have rot yet completed their districts, but an estimate places the district's contribution, including horses and equipm?r;t, at about £BOO. A full list of all such donations will be published. The amount acknowledged to Monday, 17th August, was £260 4s. On Monday last the Waiuku Patriotic Fund trustees forwarded a cheque for £IOO to the Empire Defaces Fur.d at Hamilton.

Oo Tuesday Sergt.-Major Milne got hi a much-desired chance ol joining the active service expedition. He received notice in the morning to report himself in Auckland later in the day, and left with hearty good wishes trom the few who were awa:e of bis sudden departure. Three other local volunteers are hopeful of being called on [fchortly, viz., T. Codlin, W. Hamilton (Awhitu) and Les. Flavell.
