BUCKLAND.

——— A GOOD-BYE SOCIAL.

On Tuesday evening a farewell social was tendered by the Buckland residents to Mr and Mrs J. Tilly and family, who are leaving the district to reside at Tauranga. Mr Allan presided. Tho hall was packed with friends, old and young. The early part of the evening's enteitainment consisted of songs, games and recitations. The following items wore kindly and ably contributed Pianoforte duet, Misses Allan. Songs, Messrs J. Walker, A. Smith, G. Hill, T. Walker, Misses Bagnall and Davey, Mesdames Hewitt and McAnally; recitation Mr Souster. Mr Waterhouse contributed some appropriate selections from his phonograph. Mrs Ilewitt and Miss Bagnall sang a duet. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Allan, Mrs Davey, Mr Smith, Mrs Hewitt and Miss Bagnall. I The valedictory spoeches were | made bv Messrs Allan and Wilcox j who spoke of the Tilly family as j being people hold in high esteem by the residents, both old and new, of the district. Mr Tilly had always been a peaceful citizen who had resided for a period of thirty years in the plate and had seen many ups and dowra, and many channel. The speakers wished Mr and Mrs Tilly and family every success and prosperity in their new home. On rising to respond Mr Tilly was .loudly cheered and in a neat, brief speech, thanked all present for their good wishes and kindly remarks which had been expressed I>y the speakers and endorsed by tho company towards Mrs Tilly, himself and family. The ladies provided a tasty supper which received full justice after ■which the room was cleared and dancing was spiritedly indulged in until the small hours. EUCHRE AND DANCE.
