SCHOOL COMMITTEE

On Monday evening, August 3rd, | the Pokeno Srhcol Committee held! their usual meeting, there being present—Messrs Lcatham (chair- I man), Hates (secretary), Abbott, I Evison, Munro and McTavish. The monthly report of the school showed the re were 67 on the roll, the average attendance beirg 62, A letter was received from Mr Auld re interviewing the School Committee, and he agreed to meet the committee in a few days. Mr Anbott reported that he had purchased the timber for swing bjut and slide. Mr Lcatham also reported that tho grounds belonging to the school had at last been cleared. Accounts amounting to £5 were passed for payment. Resignation was received from Mr McTavish, who is leaving the district. FARMERS' UNION SOCIAL. On Friday last the fornightly social of the Farmers' Union was held in the Poknin hall, there being a good att ndance. The lir.t prizes were won by Miss J. Gordon and Mr Sid Fitr.ess, the other two prized jailing to Miss E. Walden and Mr jas McCaw. At the finish of the euchre the usual dance was held, Mr G. Hayward being M.C., while excellent music was provided by Mr M. Drown on the piano.
