So far as this Bill had proceeded several im?ndments had been carried against the Government Clause 4 provided that married men would require £2OO and single men £IOO in order to qialify them to f_, ke up land. An amendment was moved by the Opposition (Mr Wily) to reduce the sum required by married men to £IOO. The leader of the Opposition (Mr Eamea) urged that an elective executive should be appointed to carry out the business of the Union for the remainder of the session, but this proposal found no favour op either side of the House, which appeared to prefer the present party system. Mr Allan later on.stated that he would advise His Excellency to ■end for the leader of the Opposition and ask him to form a Ministry. Mr B. H. Andrew, chairman of committees, was in the Speaker's chair.

The remainder of the evenirg was devoted to impromptu speaking. The subjects were: "Should a drainage loan be carried for Pukekohe?" Dr Wake; "Should Bible lessons be given in public schools?"
