The Rugby Game.
A large amount of interest was taken in the matches on the Pukekohc Kecreatkn Ground on Saturday. In the senior match Hill had to win or make a draw of the game to secure the Motion Cup. Hill, in view of the fjet that they had strengthened their side, were generally expetcd to win, but the City team, who have been improving with every match, fully held their own and the game ended in a draw. The Hill seniors have now won the championship. City juniors had no great dillicultv in defeating Hill by 14 to 0, and carrying off the hnnora for their grade. Citv juniors have put up a very line performance this year, having scored 76 whilst nu points have been registered against ttum. HILL SENIOkS 3, CITY SENIORS 3.
The gams in the first quattcr was very cv n. After a ocrics of lincouts and Bcrums in Hill's tenitory City were awarded a free kick, from which W. Adams dropped a beautiful goal. Citv 3, Hill 0. From the kick out play hovered about mid-field until near the end of the quarter, when J. Wilson secured the ball irom a line-out and started a passing rush amongst Hill bir.kr, the ball going frorr Wilson to I.amont to Rogers and on to A. Uilkey, who ran right behind the post! and scored the only try of the match. J. Wilson failed with an easy kick. Hill 3, City 3. On changing over play was very even until the end tf the first spell, the forwards no both sides playing up well.
The second spell was much the same an the first. Hard aril solid play by both packs and the backs tackling well. Th> - thiid t]uaricr was the most strenuous nf the game. Play hunj about mid-licld for the greater part of this quarter. Lamont broke away with a Rood run and carried the ball over City's line only to ba hdd up, no score resulting. Shortly afterwaids Hill backs got going again and a certain try was lost through Rogers hanging on instead of passing out. Tht fourth quarter saw City making a despcrata effort to win. The forwards attacked stronjtly, but Lament's defence was too sound. From a line out Hill forwards broke away with the ball, but W. O'Neil relieved by kicking to touch. City retimed to the attack and tho garre ended with City on the aggresive.
For the Hill team the forwards (who were easily the heavier pack) played well. It would be hard to single any one of them out as being b;tter than the rest. In the backs, J. Wilßon, Lamont. A. Bilkey end Scott did great work, Lsmont'a defensive play being very sound.
The City pack were superior to their opponetts and ulaycd a great game, W. Adam', Kelly, O'Neil Bros, and W. Lauer being perhipi the pick, although every man did good service. In the backs, Ricket Bros., J. Adams and Lauer were noticeable fjr good work. Mr U. Foy referced. CITY JUNIORS 14, v. HILL JUNIORS 0. The game wai of a fairly interesting nature, and in the first spell City had their work cut out defending their Boal line. Tne first half ended City 3, Hill 0. On resuming play In the second half Hill got rather over-aixbus to score, und lost several good chances. From a free-kick in Hill's tweny five J. Blake kicked a fine goal for City, and shortly after landed another goal from a mark. Hill then seemed to lose heart and City had it 011 their own wav. adding another five points to their total. J. Blake was in good goal-kicking form and secured 11 out of 14 points of the Citv's score (li goals and converted a try), M. Brown scoring the other 3 points (a try). Mr V. Cunningham had control of the game.

The game throughout was faHt and clean, there being some good exhibitions ot open plsy. l'ukckoho had hard luck on several (iccabiotis, the ball hitting the crossbar and uprights but bouncing the wrong way. After an exciting tussle in front of the posts Lees shot the first goal, and shortly alter the same plajcr repeated the performance. In the second half Williams and Co floe both addo.l a goal. For Pukekohe Lees, Williams, Colfcc and Miller were always well to the front and played rattling games. Mr Horslcy acted as riferee.
