FRANKLIN METHODIST CIRCUIT.

Quarterly Meeting.

Tho quarterly meeting of the Franklin Methodist Circuit was held un Wednesday lot inst., when representatives were present from Pukokohe, Buckland, Bombay, Waiuku Mauku and Karaka. Tho Rev. G. Frost presided.

The last minutes were read from the old minute book, which was in an excellent state of preservation notwithstanding its holding the records for '6l years. The tirst entry is the report of a meeting presided ovor by the Kov. 8. F. Garlick on the Ist Jul}-, 1577, when the following members were present : Messrs Baniball sonr;, Holmes, Keith, Caleb Husking, lioose Walker, Roiitloy, Salisbury, Walters, Jolinstouc, Allon, Melvill and Eich. llobbs. Seme of these members are still in the district. The closed minute book was handed over to the custody of th«' minister to be kept at the parsonage for luturo roference. thanks were also sent to Messrs Fi ilav and Matthews, who have removed fil m I'.uckland !o Manurewa, whi'st i Mr Av.'.-v, a local preacher from lln - tihi, was wt loomed to the district. After revising tho roll it was found that the membership stood at 240. The Home Missioner (Mr Ashton Fitchett, of Tuakau) was given an increase of £lO in his salary. Mr Fitchett is a student who is studying for foreign mission work. The purchase of a new horse, saddle and bridle for tho Waiuku minister at a cost not to exceed £l6 was decided, and the advisability of purchasing a new horse for the Pukekohe minister was deferred until next meeting. , The balance-sheet showed an income of £l4"> and expenses to the amount oi £lB5. This latter sum included the £lO set aside for purchase of horse and £22 7s 6d for removal expenses. In addition it was reported that £75 0 3 2d had been raised in the three months for the Home and Foreign Mission Fund. The chairman reported that Mr C. H. Mann, of Devonport, would visit tho circuit the first week in October in advocacy of the Mission Fund. Satisfactory reports were received from the respective Sunday Schools in the circuit.

Mr F. Souster, architect, presented a report respecting necessary improvements and repairs at the Pukekohe parsonage. It was decided to request the trustees to meet at an early date and confer with tho circuit stewards respecting a renovation scheme.

A letter of condolence was authorized to be sent to tho family of tho late Mrs Whewell, who was tho wife of tho first Methodist minister in this circuit, and who originally resided at Waiuku. A letter of sympathy was also dispatched to Mr Craig, who is at present in tho Auckland hospital.

A report on the Pokeno church was received, and tho advisability of shifting it to a site near the railway station was held in abeyance for three months. Tho Eoy. G. Frost will in the meantime inspect the district.

Hearty congratulations from the circuit stewards were sent to the Waiuku trustees for tho recent improvements they havo made to the church frontage aud entrance. A fine concrete wall has been erected which had cost £BO. Mr F. W. Mount joy prepared all the architectural work gratuitously, and Mr S. Eossiter had freely given his services in superintending tho job. The completed work was a credit to all concerned. It was decided to forward a resolution to the Prime Minister congratulating him on the Eeferendum Bill for Bible-in-Staio-Schools.
