BUCKLAND.

TENNIS CLUB SOCIAL. The popularity of the Buckland Tennis Club's socials was again evinced on Friday evening, when the second of the series being held fortnightly this winter, with a view of augmenting the funds of the club, took place in the public hall. The attendance included many from adjacent districts, and a most enjoyable evening eventuated. A progressive euchre tournament, played until 10.30, created much interest, the ladies in charge of the card tables being kept extremely busy. At the conclusion of play some good scores were found to have been made. The first prize for ladies went to Miss M. Davy, while that for men was carried off by Mr Len. Bilkcy. The hall was afterwards cleared for dancing, which was kept up with much spirit until midnight. The dance music provided by Mrs Wm. Y. Davy gave satisfaction as usual, while the duties of M.C. were carried out in an efficient manner by Mr L. Bilkey. THE PUBLIC HALL.

A meeting of the newly elected hall trustees was held on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs James Wylie (chairman) A. J. Melville, W. J. Jefferis and H. W. Driver. The chief business before the meeting was to consider a resolution carried at a public meeting of residents recently held in tho hall. The resolution, moved at the former meeting by Mr Driver, and seconded by Mr Jefferis, was as follows: "That this meeting approves of alterations and additions being effected to the Buckland Public Hall, and recommends the incoming trustees to give schemes embodying such proposal their earnest consideration, and have the work carried out as soon as practicable." The matter evoked considerable discussion, but it was eventually agreed to give effect to the retolution, the extent of the alterations to the building to be determined after costs and various matters in connection with the work had been further considered. For this purpose the architect, Mr Fred Souster, who submitted plans for the proposed alterations, is to be asked to confer with the trustees. Pending alterations being effected, it was decided to adopt the tariff of charges hitherto in vogue.
