PAPAKURA.

WEDDING. Last week a large number of friends were present in the Anglican Church to witness the wedding of Miss Walters, tldest daughter cf Mr W. Walters, Glenora Park, to Mr Smith, of Gisborne. The ceremony was peiformed by the Rev. 0. R. Eewlett, an old friend of the family, assisted by the Rev. W. C. Wood. The wedding was a very quiet one, the immediate relatives only being present at the reception held afterwards by Mrs Walter*. Misa Walters was very popular in the district and was the recipient of many valuable gifts, both useful and ornamental. The youDg couple left in the evening for Rotorua for their honeymoon and thence proceed to Gisborne where they propose to settle down. BASKET BALL. The game of basket ball has lately made its way into this district, and on Saturday afternoon the first match of its kind was played in the school grounds between the school team and a team from the Presbyterian Bible Class, The followingrepresented the school:— Alma Wilson, C. Wood, R. Swindial, A. Swindail, A. McLennan, E. Waterman, C. Bentley, F. Bates and M. R. Wood (captain). Ihe Bible Class was represented by: G. Stewart, M. Stewart, A. Paton, 0. McLennan, E. Bremner, G. Brooks, A Thomson, L. Wilson and M. McLennan (captain). Mr Dickson acted as referee, and a strenuous game resulted in a win for the school team by 12 points to 5. FOOTBALL. The Clevedon and Bombay senior foolball teams played a tine game in the recreation ground on Saturday afternoon, resulting in a win t"cr the former, who are now leading for the championship. STKEET LIGHTING. The matter of lighting the main Btteets haa been agitating the mind uf the Town Board for some time. As an experiment three Dietz lames were procured and fixed in position last week, and so far have given every satisfaction.
