OUR CORRESPONDENTS' WORK.
A remark which was made at the meeting held in Tuakau last night prompts us to make some 'omments • upon tli2 work of our correspondents in general. The meeting wad held fur the purpose of electing a school committee ior Harrisville, the previous clectijn having betn declared void on account of alleged irrcgulari- , tics. The remark r.ferred to was directed at our Tuakau correspondent | who was atked, more or Ics offensively, to give "a fair report'' of the meeting. The implication was that the report of the previous meeting was unfair, although when questioned the newly elected committee did iiOt suppott that suggestion. Our correspondents hold a somewhat trying judicial position, because they are constantly called upon to do what appears to them to be the right thing —that is to report what actually . takes place withojt far or favour, uninfluenced by personal prejudice. We have selected our correspondents with care and we believe them to be thoroughly honest and just in the treatment of the subjects that come
before them. As it happens our Tuak&u correspondent is a keen progressive, but we have attentively watched his work and at no time have we detcctei anything which has been colouted by personal opinion. We wish to take this opportunity of expressing our thanks to and appreciation of our stall* of correspondents. We know that they art ei deavouring to sustain the highest journalistic traditions. Allegations will occasionally come, but it is gratifyirg to have repeated assurances that the? overwhelming body of public opinion is one of the most cordial approval of the gcod work our correspondents are doing.
