PAPAKURA.
A GOOD-BYE GATHERING
A very successful dance was held in the Public Hall on Tuesday evening, organised by the Tennis Club as a farewerl to two of its members. Miss Elsie Walters (who has been acting as secretary of the club during Ihs past siason, and is shortly to te married) and to Mr W. M. Jones, who is leaving for Oxford at the end of the month. The attendance was very large, fully taxing the capacity of the ball. The building was attractively decorated with greenery and flags and supper was laid out in the adjoining Orange hall.
The excellent music provided and the beautiful condition of the floor made the dance very enjoyable. Messrs D. Wilson, Bennett, Lever, Walker and H. Wilson acted as M.sC, but the brunt of the work fell upon the shuulders of the energetic secretary, Mrs D. Wilson, who deserves much credit for her exertions.
During the evening, Mr E. D. McLennan, the president, en behalf of the members, presented Miss Walters with a silver rosa bowl, and Mr Jones with a case of pipes, both presents being suitably inscribed.
In a short speech Mr McLennan mad2 reference to the prominent part taken in the affairs of the club by the two retiring members, and especially of the good work done by Miss Walters in her capacity as secretary. Mr H. Wafers (on behalf of his sister) and Mr Jone3 briefly responded. Dancing was tnen resumed and continued to a late hour.
