THE MERCER TOWNSHIP.
Movement to Form a Town BoardA meeting ot' householders was held iu the Town Hall, Mercer, on Thursday night, about 30 being present. The purpose of the meeting was to consider the advisability of forming a Towu Board for Mercer.
Mr W. C. Pickett was elected chairman. After explaining the objects of the meeting and showing some of the advantages to be gained by the residents governing their own affairs by the establishment of a Town Board, Mr Pickett proposed : " That this meeting of householders considers that in the interests of this town a Town Board would be the best form of local Government, and that a committee of tive bo appointed to carry out details and take necessary steps to have the Town Board established."'
This was seconded by Mr Gallery, and after Messrs Morgon and E. Martin had spoken in favour of it was carried by a large majority.
A letter was read prior to the motion being put from Mr Willis, of Papakura, giving some good advice and information which was highly appreciated by those present and will be of material beneiit to the committee in earning out the details of the formation of Town Board. The meeting then elected tho following to act in accordance with the latter part of the resolution : Messrs M. Gallery, W. C. Pickett, G. Morgon, H. S. Valentine and S. Carter.
A vote of thanks to the chair terminated a most enthusiastic meeting.
