TO THE EDIT I >K
Sir, —I thir.k that the public .-hould foci indebted t.) 50:1 for your leaderette en this matter, nad also to the Chamber of Commerce for its activity. 'lhere are one or two other < cforts which, if trm (a-ul I am ir.l'oi inert and believe that they are), seem to t ! .e lay mind to require explanation c r remedv.
1. A letter, I understand, posted in Fukskoha in the uveai-g for, siy, Ngaruawahia will ar.ive at its destination subsequent to a letter posted here at 9 a.m. the followng morning.
2. Letters posted on Saturday night or Sunday fcr Wellington do not begin their j.urney until Monday. A 8 the express stops at I'ukekoh3 on Sunday evenings by seizing the opportunity thm afforded, a delay in transit of 21 hours cou!:\ on that day at lea=t, be obviated. 3 Letters fro.ll Wellington per evening express are frequently not delivered in Pukekohe until 5 p.m. the following day, thus taking about 24 hours to reach here from Auckland, to which plica I am informed Pukekohe express mails are carried. Were it a rule that all should b2 stumped wherever sorted, phowing hour of arrival it would be possible to locate where delays, if any, occur but, of course, as to the practicability of this being done I am not qualified to say. I have not the slightest wish to disparage our ever courteous and obliging post office staff. I do not know that any blame i 3 attachable to them in the incilents referred t-i, but think rather that they are matters for Departmental adjustment, but if the statements are correct then it is high time some remedial steps were taken.
Let us be as progressive as we can and not savour too much of the prehistoric age.—l am, etc., "K.D."
