TUAKAU.
farewell social.
Quite the most successful social function arranged by members of the Progressive League was held on Monday evening to bid farewell to one of its oldest members and chairman of committee, Mr M. Foley. The evening was purely a League affair.
Mr D. Fulton presided, and during the evening presented a handsome travelling rug to Mr Foley as a slight token of esteem in which Mr Foley was hell bv fellow members. Mr tulton pointed out that the League practically owed its inception to Mr Foley, and added that Mr Foley had done much, in a quiet way, in the public interest. Continuing, he voiced the general regret that the League felt in losing Mr Foley. „ Mr Foley made a splendid speech in reply. He spoke feelingly upon the happy associations he had had with fellow member?. While he was severing -his connection with the League his interests would always be here. He had arranged to have the "Times" forwarded on, so would be kept in touch with local matters. If he could serve the League in any way from the Auckland end he wculd be pleased to do 80.
During the evening other Bpeeches were mad?, songs rendered and refreshments served. Later, the gathering dispersed to the wellknown strains of Auld Lang ayr.e. POST OFFICE.
The new post office has just been fitted up with an up-to-date acetylene gal plant. Altogether 1G lights have been fixed. The brilliant effect of the lighting is a great contrast to the old kerosene lamp light recently in use.
