Competition Prizes Pre* sented

Special local intereat was lent to "the pictures" on Wednesday evening by the kindness of the proprietary in permitting the occasion to be used for making presentations to the firemen who won the events in lust Saturday's contests. The competitions took place at the parade ground, beside the Pukekohe District High School, and evoked considerable interest. It is hoped that those events will be made especial features in future years and that they will tend to develop the efficiency of the firemen. The prizes were presented, on behalf of the donors, by the Major (Mr C. K. Lawrie). The winners and donors were as follows—-

One man championship—Captain A. Edgar. Gold medal presented by Mr Len Egginton. Second prize, pipe presented by Mr J. Patterson, wot. by Junctionman A. Tawac. Two men event—Captain Edgar and Hydrantman Duniby. To Captain Edgar was given a cruet presented by Roulston Bros., and to Hydrantman Dunsby a pair of trousers presented by Mr K. Miller. The second pri/.s were wun by Junctionman Tawee and Branchman Adams. These prize) were firemen's boots presented by Messrs S. W. Mills and C. Lodge. One man carry event, hydrant, hose and nozzle —Won by Junctionman A. Tawse, gold medal presented by Mr Wright, jeweller: second prize was a silver medal won by Secretary Thornton, also presented by Mr Wright. Ladder race-Woo by Foreman E. Wood, gold medal presented by Mr C. R. Lusher.

The tiro brigade dance last night wus very successful and clearly showed that these functions aro making big udvaucps in public favour. The tloor at the Masonic hall was in good condition and ex- t cpllont uiusiu wus :t e Miu supplied by Miss Pulleng. Messrs Edgar and Thornton were efficient M.Ca. The brigade is to hold those dances monthly and as the winter draws on it is oxpac'.ed they will become the most popular of the local fixtures. Mr Thornton still carries out the duties of secretary in n . ipuble way.
