POKENO ROAD BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Road Board was held on Monday afternoon, there being present Messrs R. Lyons (chaiiman), J. Graham and P. Wyinan.

Accounts to the amount of £4 lis were passed for payment. It was decided to spend £2O on Parker's road. The Board decided that for the present no more work will be done on St. George's road.

A letter was re eived from the Mercer Koad Board asking if tho Pokcno Koad Board would undertake the spending of i'l-'o on a certain road ou behalf of tho Mercer Board. —The Board decide 1 to get full particulars from tho Mercer Board before going on with the wo. k.

It was decided to instruct Mr J. Norrie, the returning officer, to proceed with the elec'ion of two lumbers. The retiring members ni\> Mr R. Lyons and Mr James Graham. As Mr Graham intends residing in Auckland he does not intend to stand for election again.

Several small matters were left to members to attend to in their various divisions.

The merging of the Board into the County Council was mentioned by the chairman, who reporte 1 that the petition for merging was being largely signed. LI HUTS OUT. Several complain's have leached me about owners of vehicles driving after sunset without lights, several people having hud some narrow " squeaks " lately. Our member on the County Council nearly came to grief twice on tho one eveuing through meeting traps without lights. Perhaps Our member will shake up the " powers that bo " aud get them to have a few owners hauled over the coals. STIUIvE.

A strike on a small scale occune l here the other day, when the men employed carting from tho btonocrusher struck for a little time. One councillor, Mr R. Lyons, was present, and he straightened things out aud work was resumed. KOAD METAL.

The County Council's tractor and crushing plant haa been breaking stone on Mr T. Gordon's property, and has made a tirst-class job of the metal that has been broken.
