LOCAL AND GENERAL.

On Saturday the final of the handicap singles was played on the Pukekohe bowling green, when b'ames (scratch) beat Wright (3) by a single peint, 20—19. The Stars again changed hands, W. Adam*, Lawrie, J. Houlston, and Graham winning from Huvey, Heweon, Blake and Clarke by five points. The number of special constables of this district who were represented at last we;k's cslebration at Ruakura State Farm were:—Bombay 3, Buckland 23, Cleveilin 19, Hunua 5, Mauku 24, Onewhero 28, Pukekawa 5, Pukekotie 17, Te Akau 10, Tuakau 10. Te Kauwhata 9, Waiuku 3. To the officers in cnarge of each squadron the Prims Minister presented medals for each special. The medals are of bronz?, and about the size of a florin. One side is engraved with a mounted horseman, and the words "Special Mounted Constabulary" below. The other side carries the coat of arms of the city of Auckland, and the words "Auckland, November, 1913." Each medal beara the name of the receiver.

The local agent for the Ford motor cars reports havisg sold one of the latest model cars to Mr D. Fulton of Tuakau. In order to show the ease with which the cars can be handled Mr Fulton, after receiving only one driving lesson of about half an hour, took this new car in hand and drove it straight through from Auckland to Tuakau without any assistance. These cars ara still advertised by Mr B. H. Andrew at <£l9s cash, but it is quite likely that when the customs tariff is revised this coming session it will have the effect of increasing the prices of all cars, as Mr Massey has already hinted at increased duties on these machines. Those who are requiring cars next season are thertfore recommended to book early. In older to show the growing pupularity of the Ford it is interesting to bote that the Auckland agents sold 20 new cars in Easter week alone. These cars having demonstrated their value are now selling like hot cakes.
