KARAKA.

Road Board Meeting. A special meeting of the Karaka Road Board was held on Weintsday, April Bth; present—Messrs Batty (chairman), Glasson, Schlaepfer and Sutton. The business was to authorise Mr Mojre, C.E., to call for tenders for bridges over the Hingaia ar.d Wbangaimire creeks as suon as everything is in order for doing so. The motion was proposed by the chairman and carried unanimously. During the discussion the chairman, in answer to questions, said that Karaka ratepayers outside the special rating area retolved on for the bridges need not fear being let in for any of the cost, explaining that neither the Board r.or any other authority could do this. Ihe special rating area referred to consists of about 12,000 acres, valued at a little over £56,000; the total value of the district being £161,000 odd. Of this 12,000 acres the Karaka Land Company, which haa agreed to contribute £IOOO towards the cost of ihe bridges, owns acout 4000, 33 per csnt. of the area, and about 45 per cent, of the value. The Commissioner's decision, allocating the cost of the bridges amongst the various local bodies, is expected this month, and it should not be long before the works are commenced.
