AKA AKA DRAINAGE BOARD.
Monthly Meeting. The followin? members were present at the monthly rneetirg held on Saturday, 14th i. s\: —Messrs Hull (chairman), B°nt, Hudson, Walters, S. P. Henry and tha clerk (Mr W. J. King). THE ELBOW PETITION. Regarding the petition received at the last meeting from tome Elbow ratnpayer?, Mr Walters sugg n fted that the Board arrange to meet the latepayer* on the ground so sa to hear all sides of the question and to be in a better position to give an opinion after viewing the ground. Messrs Henry and Hudson considered this would be the proper and ber<t way to consider tha matter. Mr Hull thought a separate division could ba made of the Mangawhem area and that a special rate would have to be struck to work it. Anyhow, if they met the interested ones on the spot they could find out what they were willing to do. Mr Hudson eaid he had spoken to most ot the settlers concerned and those under the third-clasa area were to come into the first-class so as to provide ext'a lates.
Mr Waliers proposed, aid Mr Henry seconded, That the Mangawher.i ratepayers be asked to meet the Board on Wednesday, 18th, at 10.30 o'clock to consider their request.—Carried.
Members considered that it would be necessary to gtt seme deed of dedication so as to slliw the Board the right to go in or out of the area in connection with works that might be carried on. REPOHIS.
Mr Hudson reported, that the Mawhitiwhiti drain was now completed barring 3 cr 4 chains at the top and he considered that a very good job had been made of the cleaning. There was also a stood channel through the lagcon and less wetds growing there than he had seen for a long time. Mr Bent reported that the Western drain, Hill's drains and from Goodwin's to Hoskins' was all in a forward state.
The clerk's monthly statement showed that after providing for all outstanding liabilities thtjre would be a credit balance to the general account of £2 12s 9d, and there was over £250 of rates to come in yet. A tender was received for work in the Eastern drain which should hpve been in last Board day the contractor having mistaken the date. Incidentally it was remarked that the price was 7d a chain less than the accepted price, and as there were some miles to do the Board, as well aa the contractor, suffered from the mistake. Accounts totalling about £IOO were passed for payment.
