WAIPIPI : EAST END.

PUBLIC HALL WANTED. On 17th inst. a public meeting was held in the schoolroom to see what steps could be taken in connection with the erection of a public hall at Waipipi. Mr Furniss was voted to the chair and explained the object of the meeting. Mr A. Jones was appointed secretary and read letters from sawmillers and others as to the price and terms of timber for the building. Mr J. C/otty kindly donated a site for the hall on the Creamery road, about 20 chains from the main road. On the motion to build a hall being put to the meeting it was carried by a large majority. The following committee were elected to carry out the business:— Messrs J. A. Renall, H. Furniss, J. T. Jones, J. Crotty, A. Jones, J. Short, and M. Gleeßon. The residents were thanked for their attendance and the meeting adjourned. On the Saturday evening following the committee held their first meeting, all the membais being present. Mr J. A. Renall was elected chairman, and Mr J. Crotty secretary. Mr Crotty was thanked for donating the site and it was decided to get five lists out for canvassing for funds, something like £2l being promised in the room. The district being very much in need of a public hall it is hoped the public will take kindly to the canvassers. WORK ON THE FARM. lhu harvesting operations are about completed, with fairly good yields. The potato crops are fairly good. The best crop reported is that of Mr J. McDonald, of Jersey Farm, 13 tons to the acre of clean, nice potatoes. Turnip crops are looking up. Old grass is fairly good for this time of the year. Ploughs and teams are busy getting ready for grass-sowing.
