LOCK AT THE NEEDLES.

Letter From Waiuku mitteeAt Tuesday's meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board the subject of the proposed lock at the Needles, Waiuku, was under the notice of the Board. A letter was received from the honorary secretary of the Meedles Lock Committee, Mr W. J. King, stating that at a meeting of ratepayers held to cunsider the matter, very little interest was evinced in it. The mcetirg passed a resolution suggesting that the construction of a luck should be deferred, pcndiDg the. report of a Royal Commission on the inland waterways scheme; the meeting was £1 so of opinion that the Waitemata and Manukau Harbours should be connected hy a canal before a lock was constructed at the Needles. The letter was referred to a committee.
