From previous discussions already reported in tbe "Times," it will be remembered that Mr Langtord held that this would be a main road as soon as it was constructed and he considered that the settlers alongside should not be called upon to bear its whole cost. It was said in reply that the rates now paid totalled £25 a year, but lor years it had only been £l2 or £l3 and that cn an average more than that had been regularly spent upon the read. There is a Government grant ot £IOO for the work £ for £. Mr Largford said the few settlers affected had agreed to give £4O as well as £lO worth of work.

In view of the fact that the settlers were prepared to help themselves to this extent, and in consideration of other circumstances, it was agreed that the Board would give £6O so that the whole grant could be lifted. It was decided to order 150 yards of metal from town for the work.

QUARRY RESERVE. At a previous meeting Mr Godwin Smith offered to lease »he three-acre quarry reserve in order to keep it clear of noxious weeds. At the same time the applicant said he would prefer not to lease the land if somebody else would do so. Lever, of Papakura, at 10s per annum and the lease was granted to him accordingly. LOCAL BODIES CONFERENCE. Mr Giasson was appointed to represent the Board at the conference of local bodies to be held in Auckland to consider the question of maintenance of the Great South road. HORSE TROUGH.
