TUAKAU SOUTH.
BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS. This end of the district is progressing steadily. Two new houses have just bsen completed; one tor Mr A. Lapwood, junr., and one for Mr F. List. STATE OF TRADE. The river trada is assuming normal conditions again since the Huntly mines reopened, and coal is again available in fair quantities. Flaxmilling is being carried on steadily though prices are not too good. THE FISH SUPPLY. Fish are very plentiful down at the heads, and large catches of schnapper, flounder, mullet and other fish are being made by Maoris and others. There are enough fish to supply all the surrounding districts steadily it some one would put a launch on and make a business of it. SCHOLASTIC. Miss F. H. Frost, who id 3n old pupil of the leal school, has been appointed assistant at Mercer. The school has been renovated and at present the plumbers are just putting in new tanks at both school and teacher's residence.
