POKENO.
OBITUARY. The death is reported of Mr The mas Dean, second son of the late Mr John Dean, of Pokeno, at the age of 48 years. The deceased resided at Paeroa and his death took place at the Thames hospital. SOCIAL. The Farmers' Union Social Club held their monthly social on Friday evening. There was not a large attendance but those who did attend tad a very enjoyable time. Mr S. McCaw, the hon. secretary, had everything in apyle pie order. The music was supplied by Mrs J. Graham, assisted by Master A. Graham. The duties cf M.C. were carried out by Mr G. Haywood. ACCIDENT. Mr T. G. Evison, carrying contractor to the Dairy Association, had the misfortune to meet with a mishap tn one of his cream waggons on t v c hill by the Pokeno Valley "creamery, oa Saturday morning. The front wheels and axis parted company with the rear wheel?. Fortunately nobody was hurt. After a couple of hours' delay the waggon was temporarily repaired and was removed .^jj>me.
LAND SALES. Mr W. Appleby, who has resided at Maungatawhiri Valley for a good number of years, has sold his wellknown farm. Mrs Larsen, of Pokeno, has sold her property at £6l 5s per acre. A number of town sections were sold in Pokeno recently at £2B a section. As it takes 13 sections to maka an acre it means about £364 per acre. If tbe Pokeno-Paeroa railway starts from here these town sections should be alright. OtherBUSINESS SOLD., Messrs Brown and Son have sold their big business to an Auckland firm.
