MAUKU.

ATHLETIC CLUB'S SPORTS. ' A meeting of the Athletic Club was held in the Mauku hotel on Saturday evening, wiien matters dealing with the recent meeting were discussed. It was reported that a certain competitor at the meeting had given an assumed name and had not Bent forward his full performances. As the Mauku Club have always been most particular to carry . their meeting through on straight lines, and in the interests of clean ■port, it was resolved to place the whole matter in the hands of the executive of the New Zealand Athletic Union and request a full enquiry before any stakes were paid in this particular case. Members condemned the rule 'whereby competitors were allowed to register for one day, aod considered that it should be for a year. The Vday business"' did not give country clubs any chance of knowing if the outsiders who attended were genuine or not and was likely to lead to trouble. At present strangers who ■re old »hands might come alonf, register for 'the day and carry off BeveraL. 1, vents and not bs heard ot againi^

A High tribute was paid to Messrs P. Kavanagh, E. C. Cuff, R. Fulton, Bert Moore and H. Wright for their assistance en spurts day. The aecretary reported that the record of post entries was just double this year to anything previous, and the result was on account of the splendid way the gentlemen named had worked.

The president, Mr J. Goldsworthy, made some highly eulogistic remarks regarding the aecretary, Mr W. Finlay, who had so successfully carried through such a record meeting.

Other members also spoke highly of Mr Finlay's work, and it was proposed by Mr Kavanagh, and seconded by Mr Howard, that he be donated £5 5s from the funds. This was carried unanimously.

It was reported that the net profit from the New Year's Day meeting would be close on £ls.
