A TUAKAU FATALITY.

Thrown From a Horse. An old settler named Harry Wellsford, 61 years of age, met with an accident on Saturday which terminated fatally. It appears that in riding along the road he missed a rem and in trying to recover 'it his horse was pulled t j the footpath and Mr Wellsford was brought into terrific collision with a post. He was immediately rendered unconscious, and after receiving medical attendance was sent to the Auckland hospital. The patient was admitted to the institution at 12.5 a.m. on Sunday morning and died at 7.45 a.m.

On Sunday afternoon an inquest was held by Mr E. C. Cutten, S.M., at the mortuary. Sergeant Bowman represented the police. Evidence was given to the effect that deceased was riding down the main street at Tuakau when his horse swerved on to the footpath and deceased was thrown against a telegraph pole. He was picked up and attended by Dr Cheesman, who ordered his immediate removal to* the hospital. Mr Cutten returned a verdict to the effect that the deceased died from shock due to severe internal injuries, accidentally received.
