BOMBAY.
SACRED CONCERT. On Wednesday night a sacred concert was held in the Wesleyan Church, Bombay, the Rev E. P. Blamires in the chair. An opening hymn was followed with a pianoforte duet by the Misses McCowen; "The Village Choristers," by the choir; recitation, ' The Gate," by the Rev. E, P. Blamires; duet, "The Blood Red Banner," by Mr and Mrs Burton; "Bells of St. Micnael's lower," the choir; cornet solo. "The Lost Chord," by Mr A. Ramsay; song, "The Refuge of the Soul.'' Mr Burton; recitation, "Tim Twimblendum Twine," by Mr Souster; part song, "Moonlight," the choir; recitation, Mr S. Carter, of Auckland; recitation, ' "The Student," by Mr Burton: "Bells," Mr Souster. Mr Burton was conductor and Miss McCowen played tha accompaniments. Mr Blamires thanked all who bad assisted in making the entertainment a success, and congratulated the members of the church on the progress made during the last three years. After singing "God Save the King" Mr Blamires pronounced the Benediction. Refreshments were handed round, provided by the ladies. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The ordinary. meeting of the Bombay School Committee was held in tne school on Thursday night, December 18th; present—Messrs W. K. Cornthwaite (chairman), A. French, W. K. Watson, R. Donovan, G. Common, S. Allison and G. T. Proude. The chairman reported that he had applied for a new stove for the teacher's house, which was granted and had been put in position. The inspector's report for two inspections of the school was read, which was very satisfactory and was highly creditable to the headmaster and staff; at the proficiency examination all who were put up passed. Mr Corbett reported the result of. the competitions in the school garden plots, 1 Mts W. J. D. Sharp, of Rama Rama, kindly consenting to judge the flower beds, twelve in number: Mildred Corbett 1, Beatrice Fletcher 2, Mary Flay 3. The committee and tne headmaster provided first and second prizes, and the judge considered there was such a small difference between second and third, only one point, that she (Mrs Sharp) would give a prize to the third. In the experimental plot of lucerne and crimson clover with different kinds of manure, slag gives by far away the best growth. The committee has ueeu doing a lot uf improvements on the school ground, and resolved to a?k some assistance towards tarring and sanding a strip around the school. «■
