Notes From The Shops.
Saturday was a record day for ' ' , Waiuku, the street beirg crowded all day long. In the aftercotn business was exceptionally brisk and all tradespeople vera very busy, many of tha shops leing . crowded with custonaers for seveial hoars. The new steamer bronght a record load of passengers during the afternoon, and the Elsie arrived with ber decks piled high vri'h general cargo. GENERAL PROVIDERS. At Wallace and Co.'s a splendid trade was done and the shop a ttendants put in a particularly merry time. The shop windows vere specially decorated tor Christmas and presented a splendid show of wares. Inside the large store room * couple of toy stalls bad been fitted up; which did a roaring trade in Santa Claus presents. Mr P. V. Flexman also has specially attractive window decorations well worthy of inspection. A j record trade is being done here this week, and Mr Flexman said that several times during Saturday afternoon be felt like giving it up and abutting the shop, being almost run off his feet. For Christmas Eve , some excellent attractions are being provided which shoppers should not miss inspecting. Mr Albert King has things very natty in his new snap in Cribble's . , buildings, Christmas and New Year presents being much in evidence. The season's greetings are displayed in the large shop window and a fine • and varied selection of Christmas and New Year cards exhibited. Mr King can be congratulated on securing such a splendid stand just prior to the busy season. The Waiuku Bakery U having a Very busy run, and the tea rooms attached are becoming a.ve'ry popular resort for ladies'and escorts' .tea parties. The shop window dis- ' play of cakes and pastry is a dainty one and shows soma perfections of the pastry-cooking art. Mr H. Barnaby was busier'than ever, if that were possible, and judging by the contented smile towards evening had cut out a record, cumber of roasts. > But then the bullocks Jsr - bought by Mr Barnaby are only of the best and the Waiuku people . know it. A record consignment of pigs was shipped to Auckland by Mr Barnaby last week, no fewer than 172 passing through his hauds. I . "Almost sold out," said Mr Bint, /'just look at my window. Although I'd made a record batch of everyi thing it's all gone by 5 o'clock. . Pastry has had an enormous call this week and great difficulty has been experienced in caping with the demand. And that Excellent bread: why, there is not a loaf left." A special line of Christmas cakes is ■ advertised that should not be forgotten this season, The quality is right, but be sure and order early.
