MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT,
on Moniay "An Evening with Dickens" was spent at the fortnightly meeting of the Mutual Improvement Society. The Rev. C. A. Vaughan dtlivered a very able lecta'ette on the life and wo:ksof Charles Dickens, and was assisted by the following, who gave readings from the different works: -Mis Vaughan, Missts Sjnderson and Wcodward, Rev. R Barr and Messrs King and E. Williams. There was a good attendance. ARE,YOU THERE?
Much inconvenience has bee;i caused to telephone subscribers owing to an interruption with the wi-es connecting Auckland fcr part of Tuesday and the whole cf Wednesday. Surely at this critical pariod of unrest and danger the Department might sse to things more speedily. POLICE PROTECTION,
Here we are with no police pi/>tection for over a fortnight. Whilst other places are guarded (according to all accounts), Waiuku has to go without special constables. CONCERT POSTPONED.
The Methoaist concert had to tc postponed owing to circumstances connected with the strike.
