RUNCIMAN.
SEiaOUS ACCIDENT. A distressing accident happened at the Runciman station at 11.30 pm. on Saturday, to Guard H. Dursmuir. He had just finished shunting and given the driver of the train a signal to proceed to Patrata when in attempting to board his train again he slipped ard fell benrath tha van, with the result that the rear wheel* of the van passed over his left hand and forearm, inflicting terrible injuries. After receiving the "alright signal" the driver went on, littie dreaming that his guard was left behind. Suffering agony and losing much blood the injured man staggered over to the careresidence and called for help, and first aid was at once rer.dared by the caretaker, his wite and willirg neighbours. The District Traffic Manager meanwhile was advised and immediate steps were taken by him to send a Pukekoha doctor by train to -Runciman, and the sufferer was quickly conveyej to the district hospital, Auckland. On making inquiries on Monday I learn that Mr Dunsmulr is making good progress.
