BOMBAY.

A BALL On Friday evening a ball was held in the Bombay hall under the auspices of the directors of the Hall Company. Considering the unfavourable weather there was a good attendance. Messrs Barker and Forbes supplied the music, and Messrs H. J. Flay and H. Sawyer carried out the duties of M's.C. There were many very pretty dresses. M AUNG AT A W HIRI ROAD BOARD. On Saturday the adjourned meeting of the Maung.itawhiri Road Board was held at the Board's office, Razorback ; members present — Messrs J. G. Rutherford (chairman), A. J. Coombe, H. Lees, G. I. Proude, W. H. P. Evan?, and the clerk (W. K. Cornthwaite). The rate of Jd in the £ was confirmed. Two tenders for the cutting at the top of Deveny's hill were received— S. Fitness £4 10s (accepted), J. Deveny £4 15s.

Metal for Whaugarala Road.— The clerk reported that he had measured the two heaps in Mr W. Fitness's paddock and there was 54 yards in the two heaps.—Left with Messrs Coombes and Lees to the placing of it where most needed. WHAT ABOUT THE POST OFFICE? At the last meeting of the Bombay branch of the Fanners' Union, the members received a cold douche re our new post office Tenders were called for the Post Office and four-roomed dwellinghouse, due 30th September. Since the 30th wo have been on the look out for the successful tenderer. At the meeting of the Farmers' Union Union two letters were read, one from the Premier stating the work of the new Post Office was in the hands of the Public "Works Department, and the other from the Postmaster General statiug that the present Post Office was sufficient for the requirements for some time. This was the douche that took the breath out of thoso present. The secretary was to write to the Prime Minister for an explanation.
