A DANCE CARNIVAL

Masque, Plain and Fancy. Pukekohe Football Club. The dance carnival held under tlio auspices of the Pukekohe Football Club, in the Premier Hall on Thursday night, proved most enjoyable. There wore numerous fancy dresses which gave a gay air to the assemblage. About eighty couples were present and dancing went with a swing throughout to excellent music from Meredith's band. Too much praise cannot be accorded to the enthusiastic workers who did so much in the way of preparation to make the affair so successful. The unmasking took place by about half past nine, thereafter the grand march took place and the main dance programme was proceeded with. Messrs Latta and Edgar danced an Irish Jig. Four prizes, valued at one guinea each, were donated and won as follows : Lady's best fancy dress (brooch presented by Mr C. K. Lawrie). Mrs W. Reynold-, " Britannia " ;' lady's most original dress (brooch presented by Mr W. G. Abbott), Miss Weston, " Maori Wahine " : men's best fancy, (sleeve links presented by the "Times"). Mr 0. Bilkey, " Clergyman " ; men's most original (butter cooler presented by Mr B. H. Andrew), Mr McShane, " Teddy Bear." The hall decorations were most effective, the floor was in capital order, and throughout the night there was a large gathering of interested onlookers. Apart from the fancy costumes many charming gowns were worn. Those in fancy dress, in addition to the winners already named, weie as follows :—Mrs Bayly, " Billiards " ; Mrs J.
