The monthly meeting of the Franklin County Council waa held ii Pukekohe yesterday. A «ood deal of formal business was transacted. Tenders were received for ttie new county offices, the details of which are reported elsewhere. Cr Hecry replied to Mrs Awdry's letter, which was published in the "Times." It appears that the chairman asked that the letter be not published, and some Councillors expressed surprisa that after such j a request the letter should have appeared in print. We will publish thi report of the discussiun in our next issue and will endeavour 10 make it clear as to where the '"Times 1 ' stands so far as its ind£pendence in reporting public afFairs is concerned. There appears to be a good deal of misunderstanding upon this point. The general report of the Council meeting will also appear in Tuesday's issue. At Wednesday's meeting of the Aucklanl Hoard of Education a deputation from Pukekohs West waited upon tha Board and pointed out that an application tor a new school in the district had been refused. It was lelt that the inspector, who had reported on th2 matter, had been misinformed as to the position. If th 3 Bo>.rd was unatlj to grant the request for a new school, the residents were prepared to find a building ar.d put it in order fo the purpose, if the Board was prepared to supply a teacher, 'ffce chairman stated that the Board fcad a site at Pukekohe West, but the chief inspector did not approve of a new school being erected there at the present time. The fact that the residents were prepared to provide a building free ot cost opened up a new aspect of the position, and he asked the deputation to put t'na terns of their offer in writing. Before coming to a decision the Board would consult tte Sehool Committee.
