THE WAIKATO CANAL.
Visit By Harbour Board. Mercer To Waiuku. The members of the Auckland Harbour Board, accompanied bv several official guests, left Aucklaud on Wednesday evening'a Main Trunk express to traverse on Thuisday the eungested route for the proposed canal between the VVaikato river and the Manukau Harbour. A special sleeper coach was attached to the train for tha accommodation of ths party, and this car was detached at Mercer. The chairman of the Board (Mr J. H. Gunson) and all the members of the Board except Mr E, W. Alison made the trip. They were accompanied by Messrs S. J. Nathan, president of the Chamber of Commerce; S. J. Harbutt, president of the Industrial Association; A. Sturges, Mayor of Otahuhu; J. Kcwe, Mayer of Onehunga: W. H. Hamer, the Board's engineer; H. B. Bennett, the Board's secretary; E. R. N. Rmstll, the Board's solicitor; J. B. Thompson, Government drainage engineer; and Henry Atki nson. At Mercer the party were to ba joined by Messrs Ellin, president of the Hamilton Chamber ot Comm?rc\ and A. J. Glass, chairman of the Waikato River Board. From Mercer the party proceeded by launch a little way up the Waikato river, and then returned to its mouth at the Waikato Heads. Afterwards a landing was mad; 1 , and drags conveyed the party to Waiuku, where they were entertained at lurch. The party returned to Uriehuriga by the VVeka., A report of the tour
